Choosing between a limo, a taxi and a rideshare is mostly about what you want settled before you land. This guide compares the three in plain words, with no price figures, because fares depend on the trip and the day. You can compare real numbers by asking each option for a quote.
How does each option work?
A pre-booked limo. You request a ride ahead of time and pick a vehicle, and the fare is written down for you. A driver is assigned, and the pickup plan is confirmed before you fly. At Pearson, booked chauffeured rides are a pre-arranged category with a meeting point at Door A in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. At Billy Bishop, we confirm the point with you, since the airport does not publish a rule for chauffeured cars.
A taxi. You walk to the airport’s taxi area and join the line. Pearson lists separate doors for taxis on the Arrivals Level. Billy Bishop has a taxi corral to the right of its mainland pavilion.
A rideshare. You request a car on an app after landing. Billy Bishop gives rideshare its own curb next to Little Norway Park. The way you meet the driver depends on each app and each airport.
How do they compare?
| What matters | Pre-booked limo | Taxi | Rideshare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arranged | Before you travel | On arrival | On arrival |
| Fare set | In writing beforehand | Check how it is set | Check the app |
| Pickup spot | Confirmed with you | Taxi area | Rideshare area |
| Larger groups | Matched vehicle | Several cars | Several cars |
| Luggage | Planned in advance | Depends on the car | Depends on the car |
| Late flights | Message us | Join the line | Request again |
We do not describe other companies and say nothing about how any named service behaves. This table only reflects how each type of ride is generally organised.
When does a pre-booked limo make sense?
Choose it when any of these is true:
- you are travelling with a group and want to stay together
- you have a lot of luggage, or items that need space
- you land late at night and want the ride settled
- you are collecting a visitor who has never been to Toronto
- you want one written fare before you leave home
When might a taxi or rideshare suit you better?
If you are travelling alone with light bags and you are happy to wait in a line or open an app, a taxi or rideshare may be simpler. Last-minute plans also lean that way. We would rather say so than have you book something you do not need.
How does a late-night arrival change things?
Landing at midnight feels different from landing at noon. Fewer services run, you are tired and the line for a ride may be long. With a pre-booked ride the driver knows your flight and your destination, so the first thing you do after baggage is walk to the agreed point. With an on-the-spot option you find out the wait after you land. Neither is wrong, but the first removes a decision when you have the least energy to make one. If your flight is delayed, message us and the plan moves with you.
What should you ask any provider?
Whichever way you go, ask the same things:
- How is the fare set, and what could change it?
- Where exactly will I meet the vehicle?
- What happens if my flight is delayed?
- How many people and bags fit?
- How do I reach the driver on arrival?
Compare the answers before you decide.
How do you get a quote?
Send the airport, terminal, flight time, address, and how many people and bags are travelling. We reply with a single written figure you can set beside any other option. The quote form takes those details in one go. For more, see our airport limo service, the Pearson airport pickup guide and the Billy Bishop airport pickup guide.
